What is Grok Bot?
Grok Bot is xAI’s “AI teammate” product. Each Bot has a name, a job and long-term memory. It works on a cloud computer that belongs to you, signs in to websites and apps, and carries a task through to the end, coming back only when it needs your approval. It launched in beta on August 11, 2026.
How it differs from a chat assistant
Section titled “How it differs from a chat assistant”| Chat assistant | Grok Bot | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Answers questions, writes text | Operates websites and apps to finish tasks |
| Where it runs | Only while you have the chat open | On a cloud computer, even after you close your laptop |
| Memory | Mostly per conversation | Each Bot keeps its role, preferences and summaries of past work |
| Automation | Little or none | Skills (the method) + routines (scheduled or event-triggered) |
| Collaboration | One assistant | Several Bots working in parallel and handing off work |
Core concepts
Section titled “Core concepts”- Bot: an AI teammate with a clear job, such as Sales Outbound, Expense Manager or Bug Reproduction. The official advice is one focused job per Bot rather than one general helper.
- Cloud computer: all your Bots share one persistent cloud computer with a browser, file system and terminal. Files and browser sign-ins are visible to all your Bots, so separate Bots are not a security boundary.
- Connectors and computer use: use an official connector when one exists (more reliable); otherwise the Bot operates the web page like a person would.
- Skills: reusable instructions that spell out inputs, steps, validation, output and what needs approval.
- Routines: tell one Bot to run a workflow on a schedule or after an event.
- Approvals: sensitive actions such as sending, publishing, paying, deleting or changing production can require you to click Allow.
Where you use it
Section titled “Where you use it”Desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux; mobile apps for iPhone/iPad and Android (official FAQ). Bots and conversations sync across signed-in devices.
